During winter 2016, 4 veterans sat down together to discuss about the creation of a motorcycle club and more precisely, a motorcycle club for veterans.

On 12 mars 2016, they agreed on the theme of the Club « Viking Mythology » and who would be part of it, veterans - men & women. They decided that the only civilians who could join in the organization would be the partners of the men.

They wanted a club that would be a way for veterans to get out of their homes, change their thoughts by "working" for the organization, meet with other veteran rider and discuss different topics which could sometimes help them with their own situation. In other words, get the chance to know other veteran rider close by their home and go riding together even when there is no activity with the organization.

When the organization officially opened, they were 7 MC Members, 4 Valkyries and 1 Ladies. The first official ride of the organization was achieved during the long weekend of May 2016 becoming thereafter, the official opening ride of each season.

Unfortunately, not all veterans can join or stay in the Club, but for those who are part of it, the Club became like an unwritten cause to help these veterans and involved them in fundraisings to help other veterans in situations even worse than theirs.

How the name “Veteran Society Motorcycle Club” was chosen.

Knowing that not all veterans ride a motorcycle, this limited the adhesions to the organization so, the Founders decided to join men and women of the 3 different elements such as aviation, army and navy. Applicants could also come from both the Regular and Reserve Force components as long as they had an equivalent of 3 years of service.

The Founders knew that many veterans are experiencing moments of anxiety due to the circumstances of their military career. Despite the fact that many are followed by specialists; this never fully answered their specific needs.  Moreover, in withdrawing from the Forces, the veteran apprehends the break-up of group, family and brotherhood lifestyle.

Because their military service is a different world and must be lived so that others understand their moods, the Founders knew that this club could be a good way to keep their morale by bringing them back in a context of a transitional family.  Because of our military background, it is certain that civilians will never understand our states of mind and moreover, because of our passion for motorcycle, the non-rider military community will never understand our way of life.

The founders quickly concluded that their organization would include military men and women active and retired, from different backgrounds, different trades and specialties with a unique personality to everyone while sharing the same passion for the motorcycle. The Club would thus represent a distinct society so; here is how the name of our organization became "Veteran Society".

Also, because the Founders wanted their organization to be recognize as a Motorcycle Club (MC) rather than a Riding Club (RC) it meant that it was imperative for all members to own an American-made motorcycle. So, the name of the Veteran Society became Veteran Society Motorcycle Club and was officially registered with Innovation Science and Economic Development Canada on May 3, 2016.  It should be noted that this organization is also registered as a non-profit organization with Innovation Science and Economic Development Canada.

Equality and respect for all

Unlike many other veterans’ clubs, the intention of our founders was very clear on one subject, whatever your rank, your qualifications, the missions in which you served during your military service and whatever your position within of the organization, all members of the Veteran Society Motorcycle Club would be accorded the same respect and would be treated equally. It was therefore essential that our vests also reflect this approach.
